Strathcona Sunrise Rotary Mentor Program Goal: To foster the development, growth and retention of new members to the club by integrating them more fully and deliberately via participation in key activities and experiences that make one a Rotarian. Responsibility: Although it is the responsibility of ALL members of the club to contribute to the development of each new member, primary responsibility lies jointly with the new member’s Sponsor and Mentor. Committee: A committee of 3-4 members will oversee the mentor program. The committee will have the following responsibilities: - Arrange a Mentor to assist the Sponsor in mentoring the New Member
- Make Sponsor and Mentor aware of obligation to new member regarding his/her role in assisting and encouraging the new member to complete the program.
- Monitor progress of the new member towards completion of the mentor program.
- Maintain contact with the board regarding progress of new members.
- Recruit volunteers who will help with various aspects of the mentor program.
- A package including a letter of welcoming and explanation of the mentor program and it’s purpose signed by the president of the club is provided to each new member by their sponsor.
Milestone Activities - Attend Fireside/Orientation Session
- Attend a club social event or that of another club in the Valley
- Attend a work party, fund raiser or other Rotary project
- Make up at another club
- Attend a Director's meeting
- Act as a "Greeter" for a month
- Give Classification Talk
Tracking: The expected time period for completion is a maximum of 6 months with encouragement to complete sooner. Completion: once all milestones have been achieved, the member should be recognized and congratulated at a club meeting. Key Elements: - Proposers must be made aware of and be prepared to accept their mentorship responsibilities as a condition of the approval of the proposed new member. This is ensured by the Membership Development Committee who considers each application for membership. They act as the liason between the Mentor Program Committee and the proposer.
